In the Spotlight: Little Darlings Child Care Learning Center

Adriane Dean’s passion for children and eagerness to provide meaningful educational experiences means learning is often an interactive adventure at Little Darlings Child Care Learning Center.

Adriane, the director and owner of Little Darlings, has a motto to describe her philosophy: “Make a difference by impacting each child’s life in the Center every day, each day differently, one day at (a) time.

One of the ways that Adriane practices her motto is by incorporating her love of the outdoors into daily activities. For example, Adriane tells about a visit to a pumpkin farm in Mt. Airy last fall that combined science, social studies, and fine motor skills. The children and families in her program enjoyed the opportunity to learn hands-on about nature, animals, green energy, and the environmental impact that people have on the land. At one point, parents and their little ones even got to milk a cow!

Adriane is now enjoying her favorite time of year—spring—in spite of the allergies that come with it. She and her amazing staff are using The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle to teach the little ones about springtime and are using the book as a platform for other activities. They have been planting flowers for Mother’s Day, making spider webs with yarn, learning about bugs, and visualizing the lifecycle of an insect. In just one book, Adriane explored language, math, science, social skills, and fine motor movement–not to mention the art of weaving a web!

When Adriane joined Maryland EXCELS, she saw it as a learning opportunity for her program to expand on the quality she provides for her families.

It [being in Maryland EXCELS] is a challenging commitment, but it allows you to deliver to the highest level,” she notes.

Thank you for your commitment to Maryland EXCELS and for making learning so much fun, Adriane!
