Selecting Materials to Reflect Children’s Cultures and Languages

Typically, children who attend child care programs represent various backgrounds.

Many diverse backgrounds are represented by the children who attend any child care program. Children’s homes reflect various cultures, traditions, languages and even abilities. As early child care professionals, we want to make children feel safe and accepted while building a sense of belonging by promoting and celebrating diverse cultures and experiences. Material selection is essential in creating an environment that encourages curiosity and discussion, enabling other children to learn more about those around them.
